Born in 1952 in Juifang, Taiwan. As the son of a miner, Wu entered college at the age of 23, where he took up writing short stories. His writing focused on characters from everyday life, for which he received awards. Eventually he started working at a film production company, writing scripts for numerous classic movies, and becoming a key promoter of New Wave Taiwanese cinema. Currently active both in advertising and theatre, Wu has been honoured as ‘the best storyteller in Taiwan.’
