While pursuing a master’s degree from the Institute of Health and Welfare Policy at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Tsai Pei-Yuan wrote his thesis under the title: “A Fat Man / A Better Man: the Way Toward Being Integrated”. A rare example of the personal narrative research methodology, his thesis has since become standard reading for graduate students in the social sciences. At the suggestion of his publisher, Tsai Pei-Yuan used his thesis as the basis for the book A Fat Man / A Better Man. Formerly a social worker, Tsai Pei-Yuan is now a member of the administrative staff at the Tunghai University College of Social Sciences.
