She served as the speechwriter and secretary for president Lee Teng-hui, the architect of Taiwan’s modern democratic system, back in the 1990s.
A master of words, she has also worked as a literary translator (ever since she was a civil servant in the Office of the President), having translated bestselling books into traditional Chinese, including The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, A Gentleman in Moscow, Lonely Hearts, and Normal People.
